Gynecomastia

Gynécomastie chirurgie esthétique Cannes Mougins

Gynecomastia at the Cannes Mougins Aesthetic Centre

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the mammary gland in men. This often causes physical and psychological discomfort that requires treatment. The discovery of gynaecomastia should first lead to tests being carried out to investigate and treat any possible cause of this abnormality: An ultrasound scan of the mammary glands and a full medical examination will be systematically prescribed during the first consultation with the plastic surgeon.

Surgical treatment for gynaecomastia combines liposuction and removal of excess glandular tissue (the removed tissue is always analysed). The location of the scars depends on the severity of the gynaecomastia. In cases of minor gynaecomastia without excess skin, it is possible to conceal the scar around the areola. In cases of excess skin, a second scar located under the pectoral muscle will give the chest a satisfactory appearance. The main consequence of this procedure is partial or total loss of sensitivity in the nipples. Bruising may also appear following the procedure and will generally take three weeks to disappear.

The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Post-operative pain is moderate and patients will usually need to wear a compression garment for four weeks. Sports activities requiring exertion of the upper limbs are not recommended for one month.
