Lymphoedema surgery at the Cannes Mougins aesthetic centre

Treatment of lymphoedema at CECAM
The treatment of lymphoedema is mainly based on non-surgical measures: wearing a sleeve, drainage by a physiotherapist, prevention of trauma and infections, and skin care.
Lymphedema surgery is rapidly expanding. This surgery aims to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from this physically and socially debilitating condition, which in the UK is mainly linked to breast cancer treatment.
There are two types of surgical treatment for lymphoedema:
Excision surgery
This surgery combines liposuction and removal of excess tissue (skin and fat). It is most often performed in several stages with limited procedures in order to minimise the risk of complications and delayed healing.
Reconstructive surgery
It aims to restore effective lymphatic drainage in the affected limb. Various technical options are available:
– Lymph
node grafting– Lymphatic diversion to the venous
system– Lymphatic bypasses
The treatment of lymphoedema will be determined during consultation, and the possibility of surgery will be discussed with the surgeon based on the clinical examination, the patient’s medical history, and the history of lymphoedema.
