Otoplastie chirurgie des oreilles décollées CECAM

Otoplasty: correcting protruding ears

Protruding ears often have a significant psychological and social impact. Otoplasty surgery can be performed once the size and shape of the ear have stabilised (ideally from the age of 10-12). The procedure changes the position of the ear, which is reattached to the skull (correcting the “protruding” effect), and also reshapes the contours of the outer ear.

The scars are hidden behind the ear. The procedure usually begins with modifying the external appearance of the ear to give it a more harmonious shape. It continues with the creation of a space behind the ear so that the cartilage can be pulled back towards the skull and secured with stitches. Once the procedure is complete, a bandage is applied to both ears and will be kept in place for 48 hours. Pain is generally very moderate and can be managed with paracetamol.

Any significant pain experienced after the procedure should prompt the patient to consult their surgeon promptly to check for haematoma. The stitches are usually removed 12 days after the procedure.

Wearing a headband that keeps the ears in place is essential day and night for one month, then only at night for an additional month.
