Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation with implants in cosmetic medicine in Cannes Mougins
What is breast augmentation with implants?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to increase breast size. It falls under the category of mammoplasty, which aims to reshape the breasts. The aesthetic centre uses two main techniques: breast implant insertion and fat transfer (lipofilling). This procedure is particularly popular with women who wish to improve the aesthetic appearance of their breasts, whether to increase breast size, restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, or to correct breast asymmetry.
The latest trends and statistics
At our clinic, we follow the latest trends in breast augmentation, which remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures worldwide. With advances in techniques and materials, as well as an increased focus on more natural-looking results, we have seen a notable rise in the popularity of breast lipofilling, which has become a popular alternative to traditional implants. This method uses the patient’s own fat, thereby reducing the risks associated with foreign bodies and improving the overall contour of the body.
Types of implants (silicone, saline)
The breast implants, mainly placed by Dr Ihrai, are made of silicone with either a smooth or microtextured shell. These implants can be inserted through an incision in the areola or under the breast. The implants are most often placed in a retropectoral position using the Dual Plane technique, which produces very natural results. Dr Ihrai mainly uses a 3 cm incision under the breast, which is made as discreet as possible thanks to KELLER FUNNEL technology, a device that allows the implant to be inserted gently without damaging the skin.
Available shapes and sizes
During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon performs volume tests to help the patient visualise the final result. It is recommended that you bring photos of your desired results. At our clinic, breast implants vary not only in composition, but also in shape and size. They can be round, offering a fuller and more prominent appearance, or anatomical (teardrop-shaped), which attempt to simulate the natural shape of the breast. The selection of size is a crucial decision and is generally based on the patient’s aesthetic desires as well as her body proportions.
Preoperative consultation and general health assessment
At our practice, all candidates for breast augmentation must undergo a thorough medical evaluation to ensure that they are in good health and fit for surgery. This evaluation may include blood tests, physical examinations, and specific assessments such as mammograms or ultrasounds to evaluate the existing breast structure.
Choice of method and implants
In our practice, the decision between using implants or lipofilling, as well as the choice of implant specifications, depends largely on the patient’s aesthetic goals, her body type, and the medical advice of our plastic surgeons.
Stages of surgery
The surgeons at CECAM Mougins use advanced techniques to place implants either in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, choosing incision methods that minimise the appearance of scars while optimising aesthetic results.
This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to two hours, depending on the complexity and technique used in our specialised operating theatre. The implants are inserted through small incisions, often located under the breast in the breast fold, around the areola, or in the armpit to conceal the scars.
Breast lift and breast implants
The insertion of breast implants can, if necessary, be combined with a breast lift, also known as mastopexy. This mastopexy will correct the drooping appearance of the breasts, with scars of varying sizes depending on the morphology of the chest. The combination of a breast lift and the insertion of implants improves the shape of the breasts while increasing their volume.
Anaesthesia and monitoring
Our specialists will support you throughout the process. The choice of general anaesthesia allows the patient to sleep comfortably during the operation, without pain or awareness of the procedure. Preventive antibiotic treatment is administered during the procedure. To minimise post-operative pain, a painkiller is injected into the muscle before the breast implant is inserted. Continuous monitoring during and after the procedure is essential to ensure the patient’s safety.
Post-operative care and recovery
Immediately after the operation, bandages are applied, and sometimes a compression bra is recommended at our clinic. Pain medication is prescribed to manage post-operative pain, which is usually moderate thanks to the injection of an anaesthetic into the muscle during the procedure.
Recovery time and follow-up
After surgery at our cosmetic surgery centre, careful aftercare is required. Bandages are applied to support the breasts and minimise swelling for the first 2 days. A support bra is put on after 48 hours and should be worn as much as possible for the following 6 weeks. The recovery period varies depending on the individual and the type of procedure performed. It is generally recommended to avoid strenuous physical activity for six weeks. Pain medication plays a key role in managing post-operative pain.
Immediate and long-term results
Although immediate results may be visible, they are often obscured by swelling and bruising. Final results typically stabilise after a few months, once the body has fully healed and the implants have settled into their final position.
Realistic expectations
It is important that patients at our practice have realistic expectations regarding the possible results of breast augmentation. During the consultation, the surgeon will ensure that all necessary explanations are provided so that the patient can anticipate her future results. Clear and open communication with the surgeon is essential to ensure that expectations are in line with what can be achieved safely and effectively.
Risks and considerations
All surgical procedures carry risks. Risks associated with breast augmentation include reactions to anaesthesia, infections, bleeding, and delayed healing. Specific complications related to implants, such as rupture or capsular contracture (also known as “capsular scarring”), may require additional procedures.
Frequently asked questions from our patients regarding breast augmentation with implants
The cost of breast augmentation can vary considerably depending on the region, the type of procedure and the surgeon chosen. The cost of breast augmentation with implants ranges from €5,000 to €8,500 if a breast lift is performed in conjunction with the insertion of the implants.
Implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Replacement may be necessary after about ten years or in the event of complications. Ultrasound monitoring is required every two years. Breast implants can be kept as long as there are no signs of rupture found on ultrasound.
It is important to discuss the impact of implants on future examinations such as mammograms. Implants may require special techniques to obtain clear and complete images. Radiologists are trained to perform examinations on patients with breast implants. Therefore, breast implants do not interfere with the screening mammograms that are essential for breast monitoring from the age of 50 onwards.
