Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation with prostheses in aesthetic medicine in Cannes Mougins
What is breast augmentation with prostheses?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to increase the volume of the breasts in the mammoplasty category, with the aim of reshaping the breasts. The aesthetic center uses two main techniques: insertion of breast implants and fat transfer (lipofilling). This procedure is particularly popular with women wishing to improve the aesthetic appearance of their breasts, whether to increase breast size, restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, or correct breast asymmetries.
The latest trends and statistics
At our clinic, we keep abreast of the latest trends in augmentation mammoplasty, which remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the world. With the evolution of techniques and materials, as well as an increased focus on more natural results, we have noted a notable rise in the popularity of breast lipofilling, which has become a popular alternative to traditional implants. This method uses the patient's own fat, reducing the risk of foreign bodies and improving overall body contour.
Types of implants (silicone, saline)
Breast implants, mainly placed by Dr. Ihrai, are made of silicone with either a smooth or microtextured shell. The implants can be inserted through an incision at the areola or under the breast. Implants are most often placed in a retropectoral position, using the Dual Plane technique, which produces very natural results. Dr. Ihrai mainly uses a 3 cm submammary incision, which is made as discreet as possible thanks to KELLER FUNNEL technology, a device that allows the implant to be inserted gently, without traumatizing the skin.
Available shapes and sizes
During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon performs volume trials to help the patient visualize the final result. It is advisable to bring photos of the desired results. At our facility, breast implants vary not only in composition, but also in shape and size. They can be round, offering a fuller, more prominent appearance, or anatomical (teardrop-shaped), which attempts to simulate the natural fall of the breast. Size selection is a crucial decision, and is generally based on the patient's aesthetic desires and body proportions.
Preoperative consultation and general health assessment
At our practice, every candidate for breast augmentation undergoes a thorough medical evaluation to ensure that she is healthy and fit for surgery. This evaluation may include blood tests, physical examinations, and specific assessments such as mammograms or ultrasounds to evaluate pre-existing breast structure.
Choice of method and implants
In our practice, the decision between using implants or lipofilling, as well as the choice of implant specifics, largely depends on the patient's aesthetic goals, her morphology and the medical advice of our plastic surgeons.
Steps in the surgery
CECAM Mougins surgeons use advanced techniques to place implants either in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, choosing incision methods that minimize the appearance of scars while optimizing aesthetic results.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic, and generally lasts from one to two hours, depending on the complexity and technique used in our specialized operating room. Implants are inserted through small incisions, often located under the breast in the mammary fold, around the areola, or in the armpit to conceal scars.
Breast lift and breast prostheses
If required, breast prostheses can be combined with a breast lift, also known as mastopexy. Mastopexy will correct the drooping appearance of the breasts, with scars of varying size depending on the morphology of the breasts. The combination of a breast lift and prostheses can improve the shape of the breasts while increasing their volume.
Anaesthesia and monitoring
Our specialists are with you every step of the way, and the choice of general anaesthesia allows the patient to sleep comfortably during the operation, without pain or awareness of the procedure. Preventive antibiotic treatment is administered during the operation. To limit post-operative pain, an anti-pain drug is injected into the muscle before insertion of the breast prosthesis. Continuous monitoring during and after the procedure is essential to ensure patient safety.
Post-surgical care and recovery
Immediately after surgery, bandages are applied, and sometimes a compression bra is recommended in our clinic. Pain medication is prescribed to manage post-operative pain, which is generally moderate thanks to the injection of an anesthetic into the muscle during the procedure.
Recovery time and follow-up
After the procedure in our aesthetic center, meticulous care is required. Bandages are applied to support the breasts and minimize swelling for the first 2 days. A support bra is put in place after 48 hours, and should be maintained as much as possible over the following 6 weeks. The recovery period varies according to the individual and the type of procedure performed. It is generally recommended to avoid strenuous physical activity for 6 weeks. Pain medication plays a key role in managing post-operative pain.
Immediate and long-term results
Although immediate results may be visible, they are often masked by swelling and bruising. Final results usually stabilize after a few months, once the body has completely healed and the implants have taken their final position.
Realistic expectations
It's important that patients in our practice have realistic expectations about the possible results of breast augmentation. During the consultation, the surgeon will make sure to give all the necessary explanations so that the patient can anticipate her future result. Clear, open communication with the surgeon is essential to ensure that expectations are in line with what can be achieved safely and effectively.
Risks and considerations
Any surgical procedure carries risks. Risks associated with breast augmentation include reactions to anesthesia, infections, bleeding and delayed healing. Specific implant-related complications, such as rupture or capsular contracture (also known as "hulling"), may require additional interventions.
Frequently asked questions about breast augmentation with prostheses
The cost of breast augmentation can vary considerably depending on the region, the type of procedure and the surgeon chosen. The cost of breast augmentation with prostheses ranges from €5,000 to €8,500 if a breast lift is combined with the placement of the prostheses.
Implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Replacement may be necessary after ten years or in the event of complications. Ultrasound monitoring is required every 2 years. Breast implants can be retained as long as there is no sign of rupture on ultrasound.
It is important to discuss the impact of implants on future examinations such as mammography. Implants may require special techniques for clear and complete images. Radiologists are trained to carry out examinations on patients with breast implants. As a result, breast prostheses do not interfere with screening mammograms, which are essential for breast surveillance from the age of 50.
